Leadership

The APEX Leadership Award is presented annually to a member of the federal executive cadre who has demonstrated outstanding leadership of people. This award recognizes a leader who has done an extraordinary job of;
  • leading a group of people through a definable initiative or a difficult period or transition,
    or
  • providing exemplary service - either directly to the public, or indirectly within the public service - by demonstrating exceptional talent and extraordinary leadership of people.
Unlike the career contribution award, this award is not designed to recognize tenure, so the length of time the candidate has been an executive is irrelevant, as is the level of the candidate. The selection committee gives full and equal consideration to executives at all levels.

Candidates for this award should be executives who personify the values of APEX as outlined in its Statement of Principles and who serve as examples for others in the executive cadre. Nominators are encouraged to consult the APEX Statement of Principles, the Public Service Values and Ethics, and the leadership competencies for executives as guideposts for the attributes APEX looks for in candidates.
